Record #202913:

The use of models in the design and interpretation of field measurements / Jennifer K. Hutchings, and 4 others.

Title: The use of models in the design and interpretation of field measurements / Jennifer K. Hutchings, and 4 others.
Author(s): Hutchings, Jennifer K.
Date: 2009.
Publisher: Fairbanks, AK: University of Alaska
In: Field techniques for sea ice research. (2009.),
Abstract: Briefly summarizes history of sea ice modelling and its foundation in field observations. Discusses model development, using example of small-scale fluid dynamics model based on field observations; model validation, including Sea Ice Model Intercomparison Project and SEDNA field campaign; and model use in design of monitoring campaigns, including case study examining modes of variability in Arctic Ocean ice thickness and best locations from which to monitor them. Discusses issues of scale, such as parameterization of small-scale processes, and contribution of modelling to cost-effective strategies for monitoring long-term sea ice thickness variability.
