Record #202912:

Principal uses of remote sensing in sea ice field research / Robert A. Massom.

Title: Principal uses of remote sensing in sea ice field research / Robert A. Massom.
Author(s): Massom, Robert A.
Date: 2009.
Publisher: Fairbanks, AK: University of Alaska
In: Field techniques for sea ice research. (2009.),
Abstract: Examines role of satellite remote sensing in sea ice research in both hemispheres, aiming to proved practical information on main sources of satellite data and their interpretation and use. Summarizes hemispheric differences in sea ice remote sensing target, before reviewing fundamental sea ice remote sensing concepts and principles, and electromagnetic properties of snow and ice. Discusses choice of optimal satellite data sets for an application, and evaluates major sensor classes and their strengths/limitations. Reviews protocols used to derive key sea ice variables and parameters. Presents case studies from recent campaigns in East Antarctic sea ice zone: Antarctic Remote Ice Sensing Experiment (ARISE, Sep-Oct 2003); and Sea Ice Physics and Ecosystem eXperiment (SIPEX), Sep-Oct 2007)
Notes:

In: Field techniques for sea ice research / Hajo Eicken, and 5 others, eds.
