Automatic measurement stations / Don Perovich.
Title: | Automatic measurement stations / Don Perovich. |
Author(s): | Perovich, Don. |
Date: | 2009. |
Publisher: | Fairbanks, AK: University of Alaska |
In: | Field techniques for sea ice research. (2009.), |
Abstract: | Outlines approaches to design and operation of automated measurement stations on sea ice, ranging in complexity from simple buoy measuring air temperature to ensemble of instruments determining properties of atmosphere, ice, and ocean. Discusses basic unit, automatic weather station, ice mass balance buoy, ice-tethered ocean profiler, integrated system, and ice profiling sonar. Describes example Arctic application involving installation in October 2008 of 64 Lagrangian drifters measuring position, air temperature, and barometric pressure, and ice-tethered profilers measuring currents, temperature and salinity of upper ocean at 16 of these sites as part of International Polar Year 2007-08. |
Notes: | In: Field techniques for sea ice research / Hajo Eicken, and 5 others, eds. |
