Record #202902:

ice strength: in situ measurement / D.M. Masterson.

Title: ice strength: in situ measurement / D.M. Masterson.
Author(s): Masterson, D. M.
Date: 2009.
Publisher: Fairbanks, AK: University of Alaska
In: Field techniques for sea ice research. (2009.),
Abstract: Adopts civil engineering perspective to relate to needs of engineers for ice strengths in design of offshore operations and facilities. Covers principles of strength of materials (unconfined and confined compressive strengths); small-scale in situ testing of ice (pit, flatjack, and borehole jack tests); scale effects in ice strength; medium-scale indentor tests; ice strength and pressures gained from full-scale measurements on deployed structures (global ice pressure, aspect ratio effect, crushing and buckling failures, and sample load-time traces); how ice loads are calculated; ship impact tests; local ice pressures; and load-bearing ice structures (construction, ice-bearing capacity, and ice strength profiles of ice roads, ice islands, etc.)
Notes:

In: Field techniques for sea ice research / Hajo Eicken, and 5 others, eds.
