Record #202899:

Ice thickness and roughness measurements / Christian Haas, Matthew Druckenmiller.

Title: Ice thickness and roughness measurements / Christian Haas, Matthew Druckenmiller.
Author(s): Haas, Christian.
Druckenmiller, Matthew.
Date: 2009.
Publisher: Fairbanks, AK: University of Alaska
In: Field techniques for sea ice research. (2009.),
Abstract: Discusses basic aspects of thickness distribution and presents measurement methods in relation to various sea ice services, covering: drilling, EM sounding, ground-penetrating radar, laser surveying of geometric sea ice roughness, DGPS surveying of surface elevation, ice mass balance buoys and hot-wire thickness gauges, and advanced methods such as upward-looking sonar profiling of ice draft, airborne EM survey, airborne laser profiling, and satellite radar and laser altimetry. Demonstrates applications in support of various users of sea ice services (climate change detection, on-ice travel, subsistence, ice-runway preparation, biological-physical process studies, ship performance studies, ice load measurement, and monitoring and detection of weak points)
