| Abstract: | Reviews work relating to comparison and accuracy of two or more DEMs. Describes and compares several DEMs created for Hintereisferner, Austria as part of OMEGA project during 2001-04, using synchronously acquired very high resolution optical Ikonos imagery, aerial photographs, airborne digital camera images, and airborne laser scanner data. Presents methods for comparing DEMs, correcting differences in georeferencing (using surface matching in absence of ground control), and detecting distortions. Uses ground truth from terrestrial photographs of small test area on glacier, bedrock control points, and checkpoints along glacier snout. Reports RMS differences mostly from 0.4 to 0.9 m in smooth well textured ice-covered area, and somewhat larger in snow-covered area and surrounding mountainous terrain. |
