| Abstract: | Describes methods of qualitative and quantitative assessment and visualisation of glacier area change, focusing on use of satellite data in Swiss Alps and covering: simple image overlay; orthorectification of satellite images; GIS-based calculations; visualisation of glacier change (representing glacier outlines, extents and changes in combination with visible satellite imagery, 2-D nadir views, synthetic perspective views draped over DEMs, etc); and recent glacier changes in Alps. Uses examples of Oberaargletscher and region west of Grimsel Pass, Basódino, Cavagnoli and Vallegia glaciers in Göschener Alp region, and Rheinwald region. |
