Abstract: | Summarises optical properties of snow relevant to satellite remote sensing, including dependences on grain size and impurity content, differences between various glacier surfaces, anisotropy and spectral reflectance curves. Discusses satellite sensor characteristics relevant to glacier mapping (Landsat TM and ETM+, SPOT HRV, and Terra ASTER). Compares imagery for Oberaargletscher, Swiss Alps, and summarises application fields of TM bands. Discusses glacier mapping, threshold ratio images derived from TM bands, comparing different thresholds for mapping of Oberaargletscher), manual corrections, etc. |
