Evidence for subglacial deformation and deposition during a complete advance-stagnation cycle of Kötlujökull, Iceland - a case study / Knud Erik S. Klint, Niels Richardt, Johannes Krüger.

Title: Evidence for subglacial deformation and deposition during a complete advance-stagnation cycle of Kötlujökull, Iceland - a case study / Knud Erik S. Klint, Niels Richardt, Johannes Krüger.

Krüger, Johannes.
Date: 2010.
Publisher: London: Elsevier
In: Mýrdalsjökull ice cap, Iceland : glacial processes, sediments and landforms on an active volcano. (2010.),
Abstract: Examines 70-m-long section cut by meltwater into hummock moraine in front of Kötlujökull, principal outlet glacier on Mýrdalsjökull's east flank. High quality of exposure permits detailed documentation of complete sedimentary sequence representing single glacier advance-stagnation cycle. Describes and interprets five stratigraphic units (glaciofluvial outwash sediments, ice-marginal sediment association, sediment association representing deposition from moving ice, and facies associations representing subglacial deposition from stagnant ice and supraglacial re-deposition in dead-ice environment. Discusses grain-size distribution in basal tills and subglacial hydraulic conditions during formation of units, and presents model for development of present stratigraphy relative to glacier dynamic and landscape formation at Kötlujökull margin.
