Dead-ice environments: a landsystem model for a debris-charged stagnant lowland glacier margin, Kötlujökull / Johannes Krüger, Kurt H. Kjaer, Anders Schomacker.

Title: Dead-ice environments: a landsystem model for a debris-charged stagnant lowland glacier margin, Kötlujökull / Johannes Krüger, Kurt H. Kjaer, Anders Schomacker.
Author(s): Krüger, Johannes.
Kjaer, Kurt H.
Schomacker, Anders.
Date: 2010.
Publisher: London: Elsevier
In: Mýrdalsjökull ice cap, Iceland : glacial processes, sediments and landforms on an active volcano. (2010.),
Abstract: Reviews research on dead-ice melting and landscape formation in terminus region of Kötlujökull. Links identified processes and specific landform-sediment association to current climate and glacier-volcano interaction. Discusses glacier dynamics and sources of supraglacial sediments (volcanic ash deposits and up-thrusted subglacial material), and currently observed stages of dead-ice development, from fully ice-cored dead-ice field (including de-icing process and reworking of sediments), through partially ice-cored dead-ice field to post-melt landscape. Presents 5-stage landsystems model for de-icing of a debris charged, temperate lowland glacier margin, based on studies during 1977-2003 and consisting of: glacier advance; initial, mature and final phases of dead-ice melting; and post-melt landscape. Discusses melting rates under other climate conditions.
