Record #202865:

Explanatory notes of the geomorphological map of the Alta Badia valley (Dolomites, Italy) / Mario Panizza, and 5 others.

Title: Explanatory notes of the geomorphological map of the Alta Badia valley (Dolomites, Italy) / Mario Panizza, and 5 others.
Author(s): Panizza, Mario.
Date: 2011.
In: Geografia Fisica e Dinamica Quaternaria. (2011.), Vol. 34(1) (2011)
Abstract: Discusses geomorphological aspects and map of Alta Badia valley, located between passes of Gardena, Campolongo and Valparola-Falzarego. Identifies results of complex interaction between geological structure and modelling processes mainly active since Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), with Holocene mass movements progressively remodelling main valleys and partly masking older glacial traces. Discusses periglacial and glacial landforms and processes (erosion landforms, accumulation landforms and deposits), and intense landslide activity following retreat at end of Late-glacial. Slope processes now characterise geomorphology, with extensive scree slopes and talus cones, debris flow accumulations, and different landslide types. LGM is traced in scattered and small moraine deposits on plateaux, and broader outcrops along slopes. Glacial landforms shaped during Late-glacial are mainly in lowest slopes.
