Mount Rwenzori (4750 m a.s.l., Uganda): meteorological characterization and air-mass transport analysis / Gianluca Lentini, and 7 others.

Title: Mount Rwenzori (4750 m a.s.l., Uganda): meteorological characterization and air-mass transport analysis / Gianluca Lentini, and 7 others.
Author(s): Lentini, Gianluca.
Date: 2011.
In: Geografia Fisica e Dinamica Quaternaria. (2011.), Vol. 34(2) (2011)
Abstract: Analyses meteorological conditions at Mount Rwenzori (RWZ), using AWS observations made at 4750 m a.s.l. in eastern part of Mount Stanley, where most extensive glacial mass is located. Reviews glacial recession in RWZ and East Africa since 1906. Describes seasonal and diurnal variations of meteorological parameters over periods October 2006 - August 2007 and July 2008 - June 2009, which saw remarkably low variability. Only for rain precipitation was direct influence of Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ICTZ) detected. Seasonal diurnal variations indicate that local mountain weather probably dominates variability. Uses Lagrangian model HYSPLIT to calculate 2-year climatology of 3-D air-mass back-trajectories, describes synoptic-scale atmospheric circulation affecting site, and verifies seasonal influence of ICTZ on large-scale atmospheric circulation at RWZ.
