[Identifying active glaciers in Mt. Tateyama and Mt. Tsurugi in the northern Japanese Alps, central Japan] / Kotaro Fukui, Hajime Iida.
Title: | [Identifying active glaciers in Mt. Tateyama and Mt. Tsurugi in the northern Japanese Alps, central Japan] / Kotaro Fukui, Hajime Iida. |
Translated title: | Identifying active glaciers in Mt. Tateyama and Mt. Tsurugi in the northern Japanese Alps, central Japan. |
Author(s): | Fukui, Kotaro. Iida, Hajime. |

In: | Seppyo : Journal of the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice. (2012.), Vol. 74(3) (2012) |
Abstract: | Presents reclassification of perennial snow patches Gozenzawa (Mt. Tateyama, 3,015 m a.s.l.), and Sannomado and Komado (both Mt. Tsurugi, 2,999 m a.s.l.) as active glaciers. Presents ice thickness profiles, and maps and photographs illustrating surface displacements. Since Sannomado and Komado snow/ice bodies both have thicknesses exceeding 30 m, and measured surface displacements exceeding 30 cm/month in autumn 2011, authors regard these as glaciers. Similarly, since measured ice thickness of Gozenzawa reaches 27 m, and surface displacements (<10 cm/month) were observed in autumns of 2010 and 2011, regards this also as active glacier. |
