Abstract: Formalizes sliding friction coefficient, μ, on slushy road surface, based on field experiments carried out over four years using vehicle-mounted multi-axial sensing system. Formula characteristics are: 1) dependence of vehicle speed on μ can be disregarded in range 30-60 km/h; 2) thickness of ice component in slush layer is most appropriate factor that minimises variance of μ, compared with mass ice content of slush layer thickness; and 3) μ decreases exponentially with increase in thickness of ice component in slush layer.
