Abstract: Reports measurements of creep and glide pressure of snow, measurements of snow cover movement, snow pit wall observations, and avalanche occurrences at two experimental sites (Myoko, Niigata Prefecture and Azumi, Nagano Prefecture), each consisting of adjacent wooded and unwooded slopes. Wet snow avalanches occurred on wooded slope every winter, and wet slab full-depth avalanches were prone to occur on unwooded slope at Myoko site under warm and snowy climate. Dry point-starting surface avalanches occurred and no full-depth avalanches occurred on wooded and unwooded slopes every winter at Azumi site, in cold and snowy climate. No full-depth avalanches occurred on either wooded slope because of high stand density.
