Деградация оледенения и формирование катастрофических селей в современных ледниково-моренных комплексах Приэльбрусья

Title: Деградация оледенения и формирование катастрофических селей в современных ледниково-моренных комплексах Приэльбрусья
Title, transliterated: Degradat︠s︡ii︠a︡ oledenenii︠a︡ i formirovanie katastroficheskikh seleĭ v sovremennykh lednikovo-morennykh kompleksakh Priėlʹbrusʹi︠a︡ / E.A. Zolotarev, A.A. Aleĭnikov, E.G. Kharʹkovet︠s︡.
Translated title: Glacier degradation and catastrophic mudflows originating from modern glacial-moraine bodies in the Elbrus region.
Author(s): Zolotarev, E. A.
Aleĭnikov, A. A.
Kharʹkovet︠s︡, E. G.
Date: 2012.
Language: Russian.
In: Led i Sneg. (2012.), Vol. 3(119) (2012)
Abstract: Examines formation mechanism of catastrophic mudflows in glacial valleys of Elbrus region in context of current glacial degradation. Identifies important role of buried ice in formation of mudflows that affected Tyrnyauz in 20th century, based on remote monitoring of changes in glacial-moraine complex of Kayarta river. Presents imagery and map illustrating changes in Kayarta glaciers and their periglacial zones for 1963-2003. Describes dynamics of glacial lakes in Adyl-Su valley in Bashkara Glacier region and estimates probability of outburst. Derives quantitative indicators of dynamics of landslide in Kubasanty valley, and discusses influence on formation of catastrophic mudflows. Discusses possible prevention of catastrophic mudflows without need for expensive protective constructions.
