Abstract: Describes role and importance of cinema in recording and promoting polar expeditions of Heroic Age, which coincided with its early development. Focuses on film from Amundsen's 1910-12 Fram Antarctic expedition, but also describes cinematographic records of Borchgrevink's 1898-1900 Southern Cross, Scott's 1910-13 Terra Nova, Shackleton's 1907-09 Nimrod, Mawson's 1911-14 Aurora and Shirase's 1910-12 Kainan-maru Antarctic expeditions.
