Record #202634:

Ringed seals and sea ice in Canada's western Arctic: harvest-based monitoring 1992-2011 / Lois A. Harwood, and 4 others.

Title: Ringed seals and sea ice in Canada's western Arctic: harvest-based monitoring 1992-2011 / Lois A. Harwood, and 4 others.
Author(s): Harwood, Lois A.
Date: 2012.
In: Arctic. (2012.), Vol. 65(4) (2012)
Abstract: Examines relationship between ringed seal (Phoca hispida) body condition and reproduction and spring sea-ice conditions in prime habitat in Canada's western Arctic, based on sample of 2281 seals obtained between 1992 and 2011. Results revealed statistically significant trend of decreasing mean annual body condition over past two decades. Mean annual body condition of adults and sub-adults was correlated with timing of fast ice clearance in spring. Correlation was most obvious in extreme ice years in all sex/age groupings.
