Shifts in plankton, nutrient and light relationships in small tundra lakes caused by localized permafrost thaw / Megan S. Thompson, Frederick J. Wrona.
Title: | Shifts in plankton, nutrient and light relationships in small tundra lakes caused by localized permafrost thaw / Megan S. Thompson, Frederick J. Wrona. |
Author(s): | Thompson, Megan S. Wrona, Frederick J. |
Date: | 2012. |
In: | Arctic. (2012.), Vol. 65(4) (2012) |
Abstract: | Investigates whether shoreline retrogressive thaw slumping adjacent to tundra lakes located in Mackenzie Delta uplands affects water column nutrient concentrations, light availability and plankton biomass. Finds that nutrient concentrations and plankton do not appear to increase as result of shoreline thaw slumping. Despite high concentrations of nitrogen, phosphorus and organic carbon in runoff pools within sampled slump sites, these nutrients are not present in high concentrations in water columns of adjacent lakes. |
