| Abstract: | Reports results of five ice-edge surveys by helicopter in 2008 to study distribution and behaviour of beluga (Delphinapterus leucas) and bowhead (Balaena mysticetus) whales in eastern Beaufort Sea, adjacent to Cape Bathurst polynya. Finds that belugas and bowheads both engage in directed travel and diving near and under ice. Under-ice dives are consistent with feeding behaviour observed in other ice-edge locations. |
