Abstract: | Reviews United States Coast Guard's (USCG) responses to challenges posed by growth of human activities in Arctic, including operation Arctic Shield 2012 (capability assessment to ensure that USCG can meet safety, security and stewardship requirements in dealing with emergencies in Arctic). Argues need to increase US presence in Arctic and continue active participation in international bodies such as Arctic Council. |
