Abstract: Reviews recent operational redeployments of United States Coast Guard (USCG) forces. Notes increase in presence of USCG in Arctic, as human and commercial activity increases in region. Also summarises oceanographic research undertaken by USCG scientists, including measurement of pH of Arctic waters for Arctic Ocean acidification project, and collaboration with Texas A&M University in assessments of gas hydrate reserves in Arctic.
