Abstract: | Explores factors at work in conversion of reindeer herding Yamb-To Nentsy to Baptist Christianity. Outlines structural constraints within which individual agency led group of Nentsy to religious conversion. Examines how religious conversion triggers emergence of new and profoundly effective form of speaking and action within group. Yamb-To Nentsy were never collectivised during Soviet period but continued to live as private reindeer herders. Based on fieldwork carried out from 1999 to 2004. |
