Abstract: | Presents some general information about Protestant denominations in Chukotka and discusses how their influence has expanded. Offers three different kinds of responses to "logic of Christianity" as termed by J. Robbins: firstly, redefinition of, and changes in, Chukchi practices by converts after conversion; secondly, reinterpretation of these practices in terms of Christianity; and thirdly, reactivation of Chukchi traditional practices as resistance to conversion. |
