Abstract: | Reports results of surveys of birds and marine mammals carried out in south-western part of Foxe Basin in summers of 1994 and 1995, using sea kayaks and "Peterhead" boat from nearest community (Repulse Bay). Area supports important populations of narwhal (Monodon monoceros), bowhead whales (Balaena mysticetus) and walrus (Odobenus rosmarus), as well as significant concentrations of shorebirds, eiders (Somateria sp.), black guillemots (Cepphus grylle) and possibly one third of world's Thayer gulls (Larus thayeri) |
