| Abstract: | Surveys classification of reindeer at reindeer base in Severo-Evenskiy rayon in 2001-03. Notes that Koryaki differentiate reindeer according to age, sex, colour, type of wool, and ear markings and have specific vocabulary in Koryak. Notes rapid decline of traditional way of classifying reindeer, its replacement by Russian nicknames and that crisis in nomadic reindeer herding parallels loss of Koryak language. |
