Abstract: Reports proceedings of regional conference held in Kuujuaq, Nunavik, on prevention and empowerment in social issues. Aim was to discuss ways of establishing wellness, safety and social cohesion within local communities. Every community in Nunavik was represented at conference, as well as major organisations (e.g. Makivvik Corporation, Kativik Regional Government, Kativik School Board, and Nunavik Board of Health and Social Services). Proposals included restructuring of justice system, to keep adults out of jail by providing rehabilitation and additional programmes to curb alcohol and drug abuse.
