| Abstract: | Outlines objectives of Ecosystem Studies of Sub-Arctic Seas (GLOBEC-ESSAS) project: to compare, quantify and predict impact of climate variability and global change on productivity and sustainability of sub-Arctic marine ecosystems. Reports on recent workshops and on establishment of regional ESSAS programmes in Bering and Barents seas and Sea of Okhotsk. Considers likely impetus to be given to project by 2007-08 International Polar Year, particularly in concentration of field activity. |
