| Abstract: | Charts problems of intolerance in Surgut which is economic centre of Khanty-Mansi Avtonomnyy Okrug with current population of more than 100 nationalities, including many illegal migrants. Considers socio-cultural, economic, political impact of migrants and diasporas. Suggests that introduction of special programmes by local government is important factor for success of adaptation of migrants. Includes results of survey conducted in 2005 regarding ways forward. Focuses on "resources" for tolerance in society including social relations, interethnic marriage, Russian language as lingua franca, national-cultural societies, government programmes. |
