| Abstract: | Analyses largest ethnic group in Siberian region, namely Russians, who comprise approximately 80% of population. Notes that this ethnic group has not been sufficiently researched by Russian ethnographers until recently. Presents results of ethno-sociological research in West Siberia since 2000. Charts history of research since 1986. Examines regional, religious, and ethnic identities and identifies five different concepts of idea of Sibiryak. Concludes that Russian identity in Siberia is in state of crisis, characterised not by single identity but by complex and contradictory multi-layered identities. |
