| Abstract: | Discusses rise in tension between different ethnic groups in Tyumenskaya Oblast' in last five years in conjunction with rise in ethnic consciousness, increase in religiosity, and spread of mass media. Based on pilot survey carried out in 2007 in towns of Tyumen' and Tobol'sk of 98 respondents on causes of inter-ethnic tension. Results show that migration and employment problems, lack of respect for ethnic cultures, and impotence of federal powers are blamed. |
