Abstract: Greater understanding is needed of large-scale circulation in Arctic Ocean and Fram Strait which affects amounts of freshwater in areas of deep water formation in North Atlantic. Arctic Ocean Observing System (DAMOCLES) uses innovative technology to merge results from previous Arctic experiments into fully integrated research. DAMOCLES will also contribute towards objectives of European Environmental Technologies Plan and European Strategy for Environment and Health, which encourage development of international cooperation.
