Kryosphere - hydrosphere relationship (environmental science, engineering and technology) / Wojciech Dobinski, ed.

Title: Kryosphere - hydrosphere relationship (environmental science, engineering and technology) / Wojciech Dobinski, ed.
Author(s): Dobinski, Wojciech,
Date: 2011.
Publisher: New York: Nova Science
Abstract: Discusses relationship between cryosphere and hydrosphere, and whether cryosphere is better understood as part of lithosphere. Argues that discovery of water presence on other celestial bodies, and exceptional triphase presence on Earth's surface, enable fresh look at forms and processes occurring on Earth. Chapters cover: spatial uniformitarianism (same natural laws and processes that operate on Earth operate everywhere); definitions and scopes of terms hydrosphere, cryosphere, water, ice, and permafrost; characteristics of cryosphere components on Earth (ice sheets and ice caps, mountain glaciers, sea ice, snow, and permafrost); processes key to understanding specific character of hydrosphere and cryosphere, i.e., freezing and movement; and Antarctica. Argues that cryosphere includes both hydrosphere and lithosphere since it includes water as cryotic liquid.
