Abstract: Provides acoustic images of sedimentary systems of shelf edge, slope, and deep-sea floor on European Atlantic margin. Data obtained by European North Atlantic Margin (ENAM) and Sediment Transport on European Atlantic Margins (STEAM) projects show areas of sediment transport and potential instability on continental slope. Aims to provide reliable measurements in deep water to improve knowledge of slope stability problems both for coastal and offshore exploration and environmental study purposes. Summarises techniques used, i.e. sidescan sonar, multibeam echosounder, and seismic profiler. Covers Norwegian, Faroe-Shetland, Rockall and Porcupine, Celtic and Armorican, and Iberian and Canaries margins. Discusses slide and debris flows, fans, channels, drifts, gas hydrates and fluid escape features, carbonate mounds, and debris flows and turbidites.
