Record #201639:

Microbial community distribution in sediments from the Mount Elbert Gas Hydrate Stratigraphic Test Well, Alaska North Slope / F. Colwell, A. Schwartz, B. Briggs.

Title: Microbial community distribution in sediments from the Mount Elbert Gas Hydrate Stratigraphic Test Well, Alaska North Slope / F. Colwell, A. Schwartz, B. Briggs.
Author(s): Colwell, F.
Schwartz, A.
Briggs, B.
Date: 2011.
Publisher: [Amsterdam]: Elsevier
Abstract: Investigates microbial communities collected from hydrate-bearing sediments on North Slope of Alaska to determine how abiotic variables (e.g. grain size, hydrate presence, formation fluid gases) may correspond to type and distribution of microbes in sediments. Core samples were acquired from sub-permafrost, Eocene sediments in BPXA-DOE-USGS Mount Elbert Gas Hydrate Stratigraphic Test Well. Finds that mud gas methane concentration, chloride concentration, salinity and resistivity were abiotic parameters that most strongly corresponded to distribution of microbial communities.
