Record #201176:

Glaciochemical evidence of spatial and temporal environmental variability across Svalbard / Emilie Beaudon.

Title: Glaciochemical evidence of spatial and temporal environmental variability across Svalbard / Emilie Beaudon.
Author(s): Beaudon, Emilie.
Date: 2012.
In: Arktisen keskuksen tiedotteita = Arctic Centre Reports. (2012.), Vol. 58 (2012)
Abstract: Presents ion chemical data for past 300 years from Holtedahlfonna, Svalbard, and compares with records extracted from Lomonosovfonna ice core to illustrate site-specific climate and glaciological factors and estimate local influence of environmental factors on ice records in Svalbard. Although melt indicator is, on average, higher in Holtedahlfonna, melting is responsible for only 49% of variance in ion concentration, which is almost identical to that estimated for Lomonosovfonna ice core (55%). This is possibly attributable to formation of thin layers of ice in annual snowpack which act as barrier to deeper elution of ions, helping to preserve multi-year resolution environmental record.
