Abstract: Explores potential role of Large Scale Historical Exploitation of Polar Areas (LASHIPA) project in promoting protection of Svalbard's industrial heritage. Discussion draws on characteristics of two legal frameworks. Environmental Protection Act (2001) establishes regulations and roles concerning current management of archipelago's cultural heritage. World Heritage listing under consideration has potential to expand and enhance heritage provisions.
