| Abstract: | Based on fieldwork during 1993-2006 in Tazovskiy, Yamal'skiy, Nadymskiy, and Priural'skiy rayony of Yamalo-Nenetskiy AO and Ust'-Eniseyskiy rayon in Dolgano-Nenetskiy AO. Describes differences in nomenclature, place of burial, women's burials, attributes, materials, orientation, ritual food, and taboos. Notes influence of Orthodox church on rites. Concludes that despite special features of Nentsy funerals, rites of various groups of Siberian tundra Nentsy remain in general within traditional framework. |
