Antactic (sic) ice shelf melting and its impact on the global sea ice-ocean system: academic dissertation / Caixin Wang.

Title: Antactic (sic) ice shelf melting and its impact on the global sea ice-ocean system: academic dissertation / Caixin Wang.
Author(s): Wang, Caixin.
Date: 2011.
In: University of Helsinki. Department of Geophysics. Report Series in Geophysics. (2011.), Vol. 67 (2011)
Abstract: Notes that Antarctic ice shelf melting (AISM) is currently absent from IPCC climate model. Remedies this by introducing AISM into global sea ice-ocean climate model ORCA2-LIM to form ORCA-LIM-ISP (ISP=ice shelf parameterisation) to investigate impact of existing and increasing AISM. Investigates sensitivity of polar sea ice cover and Antarctic circumpolar current through Drake passage to variations in thickness of newly formed ice in leads, compressive strength in ice, and turning angle in oceanic boundary layer beneath sea ice. Analyses modelling results to investigate effect of inclusion of AISM on representation of Southern Ocean hydrography. Also investigates model's capability to represent sea ice-ocean system in North Atlantic Ocean and Arctic regions. Studies global teleconnections dut to AISM.
