Effects of sea ice on breeding numbers and clutch size of a High Arctic population of the common eider Somateria mollissima / Fridtjof Mehlum.
Title: | Effects of sea ice on breeding numbers and clutch size of a High Arctic population of the common eider Somateria mollissima / Fridtjof Mehlum. |
Author(s): | Mehlum, Fridtjof. |
Date: | 2012. |
In: | Polar Science. (2012.), Vol. 6(1) (2012) |
Abstract: | Presents data on breeding performance of common eiders (Somateria mollissima) in Kongsfjorden area, Svalbard, for period 1981-2000. Results showed that early break-up of sea ice in Kongsfjorden resulted in larger number of nests and larger average clutch sizes than late break-up. |
Notes: | Polar Science. Vol. 6(1) :143-153 (2012). Special issue: The second International Symposium on the Arctic Research (ISAR-2) |
Keywords: | 551.326.2 -- Floating ice, formation and decay. 591.5 -- Animal behaviour. 591.52 -- Animal habitat. 591.551 -- Animals, breeding behaviour. 598.411 -- Anhimae: Somateria mollissima. H5 -- Zoology: birds. (*3) -- Arctic regions. (*32) -- Svalbard. |
