Abstract: Reports discovery of massive phytoplankton bloom beneath ice-covered Arctic waters by researchers on Impacts of Climate on Arctic Pacific Environment (ICECAPE) project. Quantity of phytoplankton growing in under-ice bloom, which extended laterally for more than 100 km under ice pack, was four times greater than that found in ice-free waters, according to optical measurements.
