| Abstract: | Reports that US Department of Interior and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management recently released final offshore oil and gas leasing programme for 2012-17, which includes frontier areas in Alaskan Arctic. Programme continues existing protections for Arctic coastal areas by excluding certain areas from leasing, e.g. 25-mile buffer near Chukchi Sea coast, two subsistence whaling areas in Beaufort Sea, and area near Barrow of particular importance to Alaskan Native communities. |
