Study suggests the Atlantic is responding to global warming / Laurence Lipsett.
Title: | Study suggests the Atlantic is responding to global warming / Laurence Lipsett. |
Author(s): | Lipsett, Laurence. |
Date: | 2004. |
Publisher: | New Bedford, MA: Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute |
Abstract: | Analysis of salinity in Atlantic Ocean, from Greenland to South America, shows that surface waters in tropical and subtropical Atlantic have become markedly more saline in recent decades. During same period, deep waters in North Atlantic have become less saline. Desalination process is intensified by climate warming causing melting of glaciers and Arctic sea ice which pour additional fresh water into ocean. If cycle of evaporation-precipitation continues at current rate, ocean circulation could be seriously disrupted. |
Notes: | Detached from: Woods Hole Currents. Vol. 10, no. 3. |
