Abstract: Investigates sled dogs as Arctic sentinel species for monitoring effect of changing diet on lipid profiles along Yukon River. Compares subsistence-fed village sled dogs along Yukon River (maintained largely on salmon) with control kennel where dogs were maintained on commercial food. Profiles showed higher levels for long chain omega-6 fatty acids in village subsistence-fed dogs compared with control dogs and opposite trend for omega-6 fatty acids. These establish baseline for follow-up studies.
