Abstract: | Detailed account of meeting between Scott's Terra Nova and Amundsen's Fram in Bay of Whales, Antarctica, in February 1911, including examination of diary entries of those aboard Terra Nova at time of encounter; letters; diary entries from earlier in voyage; and subsequent hardening of initially friendly attitudes of some British expedition members. Evaluates Campbell's decision, as leader of Eastern Party, to sail westward from Bay of Whales with everyone still on board. |
