Record #200447:
Subglacial lakes / David Pearce.
Title: | Subglacial lakes / David Pearce. |
Author(s): | Pearce, David. |
Date: | 2012. |
Publisher: | Wallingford: Centre for Agricultural Bioscience International (CABI) |
In: | Life at extremes : environments, organisms and strategies for survival. (2012.), |
Abstract: | Discusses environment of Antarctic subglacial lakes, which has yet to be directly accessed. Considers characteristics, predicted diversity and community composition, possible analogues for life in subglacial lakes, difficulties of studying this environment, likely organism groups present, and existing studies of related environments. Summarises physical, biological and chemical methods employed to study subglacial lakes, three current candidates for planned access, issues of sterility and life detection limits, and potential for discovery of novel extremophile species. |
