| Abstract: | Explores concept of ancient sacred place or sanctuary among Kudinskiy Buryaty. Describes in detail six different sacred places where tailagany (rituals) occur in Kudinskiy valley. Lists main components of ritual including timing of ceremony, preparations, feasting. Concludes that sanctuary is important component in spiritual culture of Buryaty. Asserts that tailagany associated with sanctuaries strengthened individuality of group and sense of one's own (native) territory. |
