Age validation methods used at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center / Craig R. Kastelle, Daniel K. Kimura, Charles E. Hutchinson.
Title: | Age validation methods used at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center / Craig R. Kastelle, Daniel K. Kimura, Charles E. Hutchinson. |
Author(s): | Kastelle, Craig R. Kimura, Daniel K. Hutchinson, Charles E. |
Date: | 2012. |
Publisher: | Seattle: United States. Department of Commerce |
In: | Age determination manual of the Alaska Fisheries Science Center Age and Growth Program. (2012.), |
Abstract: | Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC) broadly categorises age validation methods as "direct" or "indirect", although quality of these studies realistically exists on continuum based on methodology and verifiability of data. Validation of fish age estimates and ageing methods is critical element of Age and Growth Program at AFSC. "Direct" methods include known-age studies, radiometric and bomb-derived validation; "indirect" methods include mark-recapture studies and edge type analysis. |
