Abstract: Reports results of time-series observation carried out to examine response of nutrients and phytoplankton in ice-water interface in central Arctic Ocean. Phosphate and silicate in ice-water interface were rich relative to dissolved inorganic nitrogen, suggesting that DIN was potential limiting nutrient. DIN concentrations in sea ice were approx. 3-4 times that in surface seawater, indicating that melting ice delivered DIN to surface water. Fucoxanthin and chlorophyll a contributed to carotenoids and chlorophylls in algal particles, suggesting that diatoms dominated phytoplanktonic community composition.
