Abstract: Investigates basic environmental variables and adaptability of phytoplankton communities to low light and salinity in Kongsfjorden, High Arctic fjord, in late summer 2006. Phytoplankton display good adaptability to low irradiance. To some extent, phytoplankton growth is promoted by low-to-moderate decreased salinity, but is strongly limited by significantly lower salinity. Considers possible effects on phytoplankton growth of influx of melt-water resulting from global warming.
